Religion
In first grade, students more deeply realize the great love God has for them. They learn the story of the Fall and the story of God’s fulfillment of the promise of a Savior. Introduced to the the two great laws of love, students will be inspired to strengthen the bonds of love between God, themselves, and others. Your child will learn God invites us to enter into His glory and to share it with everyone and that kind words and good deeds give glory to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
English Language Arts
In grade one, your child will build important reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. Students will continue to learn the letters and sounds that make up words. They will think, talk, and write about what they read in stories, articles, and other sources of information. In their writing, students will work on putting together clear sentences on a range of topics using a growing vocabulary.
Mathematics
Students will work with whole numbers and place value— including grouping numbers into tens and ones as they learn to add and subtract up through 20. Students will also use charts, tables, and diagrams to solve problems.
Social Studies
Students examine families and develop an awareness of cultural diversity within the American culture. Responsible citizenship is introduced as well as the role of authority to make rules and laws. The students will increase their geography skills through the use of maps and directions. Economic terminology and principles are introduced in the context of family resources as well as making economic decisions.
Science
Students explore light and sound waves, characteristics of plants and animals, space systems, as well as solve problems using the engineering design process.
